The Future of Final Fantasy Titles: Dropping the Numbers?
Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida has discussed with Square Enix executives the possibility of dropping the numbered titles from the franchise, citing confusion for audiences. Yoshida suggested that removing the numbers would make it easier for new players to understand the games and marketing would have to ensure audiences know that playing every game in the franchise isn't necessary. It will be up to whoever develops and markets future Final Fantasy titles whether the numbers continue.
