Hochul pushes sheriffs to unwind ICE ties ahead of August deadline
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a 13‑day deadline for sheriffs to unwind any agreements with ICE as a state law ends local cooperation with federal immigration authorities; she says law enforcement will still pursue criminals and cooperate with immigration authorities when needed to keep communities safe, but some sheriffs, including Niagara County's, push back, citing safety concerns, while Erie County reports no ICE agreement to terminate.
