Mayor Mamdani announced a one-year, $4 million modular public bathroom pilot across New York City, adding 17 ADA-accessible, free units operated by Throne Labs in high-traffic areas across all five boroughs. The self-contained restrooms are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., require no water/sewer/power connections, and are accessible via text, QR code, app, or tap card. Throne Labs will handle cleaning and maintenance with real-time feedback to address issues and inform future expansion.
