NYPD shoots man on Brooklyn Bridge cables during knife threat
A man climbed onto the Brooklyn Bridge cables and approached NYPD officers with a knife after a 3:28 a.m. 911 call. ESU officers spent about an hour engaging in dialogue and attempting to persuade him to come down safely; as the man moved toward them, within roughly 3 feet, an ESU officer fired once, striking him. He was taken to a hospital where he died. A knife and flashlight were recovered, and body-worn camera footage was released to the investigation, which is being led by the force investigation division.
