A French randomized trial in JAMA Network Open found that a soft lumbar belt added to usual care modestly improved daily function and reduced pain and medication use for 12 weeks in adults with nonspecific lower back pain, suggesting belts may help some stay active, but benefits were modest and not universal—and belts should complement, not replace, active management.
