American Airlines Expands International Routes with A321XLR Deployments
American Airlines will add seven international routes to its 2027 schedule, largely using Airbus A321XLRs to connect Philadelphia and New York with smaller European cities, including JFK-Amsterdam, JFK-Nice, Philadelphia-Porto and Vienna, plus Charlotte-Barcelona; a fourth daily JFK-London Heathrow flight will be operated on a 787-9, while Chicago O’Hare–Tokyo Narita uses a 787-9 and Reykjavik is served by an A321neo. The Vienna service extends into January 2028 to capture European Christmas markets, as the airline seeks to balance an 80/20 domestic/international mix and improve profitability amid industry capacity growth.
