Giants Claim Philip Abner Off Waivers, Bolster Left-Handed Depth
The San Francisco Giants claimed left-hander Philip Abner off waivers from Arizona, optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento, and added left-hander Matt Wilkinson, with Reiver Sanmartin sent down to open a roster spot. Catcher Daniel Susac and outfielder Harrison Bader were moved to the 60-day injured list to clear 40-man space. Abner’s big-league numbers are limited, but his solid minor-league track record gives the Giants a chance to evaluate him and add left-handed depth.
