Seattle Police Chief Resigns After Bite of Seattle Shooting Sparks Scrutiny
Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes resigned days after the Bite of Seattle festival shooting killed three and wounded four, with Deputy Chief Andre Sayles named interim chief. Mayor Katie Wilson acknowledged public-communication shortcomings, including a five-hour gap in updates and a mistaken custody announcement. Barnes, previously credited with easing tensions and reducing gun violence, leaves Seattle amid ongoing safety challenges and the city’s leadership turnover, ahead of the Seafair festival weekend.
