Reform UK's £72m windfall rekindles debate over UK political funding
Reform UK has attracted about £72m from two crypto billionaires, spotlighting current UK donation rules and proposed changes. The government plans to cap donations from Brits abroad at £100,000 per year (backdated to 25 March) and is still deciding residency criteria, raising questions about retroactive legality and how such funds could be used. Nigel Farage insists the gifts are legal under existing law, but the looming changes could affect their status if they come into force, prompting debate over caps on individual/foreign donations and broader party funding reforms.
