"Hurricane Idalia: Gainesville Braces for Impact"
Hurricane Idalia is strengthening and approaching landfall in the Big Bend region, with rain and tropical storm-force winds expected overnight. The City of Gainesville has opened emergency shelters, provided sandbags, and issued preparedness information. City-owned parking lots and garages will be free during the storm, and refuse collection will be suspended. City offices and facilities are closing, and all city parks will remain closed. Regional Transit System (RTS) bus service has been reduced and will be suspended tomorrow.
