South Korea Lawmakers Approve Arrest of Opposition Leader for Corruption
South Korea's opposition-controlled parliament has voted to allow prosecutors to serve an arrest warrant against Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, who is facing bribery and breach of duty charges. The motion was accepted by a margin of 149 to 136, with Lee now set to contest his arrest in court. In a separate move, parliament also voted to dismiss Prime Minister Han Duck-soo for various government policy failures, although the motion is not binding and President Yoon Suk Yeol is expected to reject it. Lee, who is currently on a hunger strike, denies the allegations against him and has called them a "political conspiracy."
