Montenegro's Parliamentary Vote Crucial for EU Path and Reforms
Polls have closed in Montenegro's snap parliamentary election, the first since the defeat of veteran leader Milo Djukanovic. The vote is expected to bring in a new government to implement economic reforms, improve infrastructure, and take the NATO member state closer to European Union membership. Pro-European parties are dominating the polls, with the Europe Now Movement in the lead, followed by the pro-EU Democratic Party of Socialists. Montenegro is a candidate to join the EU but must first root out corruption, nepotism, and organised crime.
