WGA Strike Causes Major Drop in L.A. Production Permits and On-Location Filming.
The Writers Guild of America strike has caused a 69.5% decline in on-location permits for TV and feature films in Los Angeles, according to FilmLA. The agency reported only permit data, not whether filming actually took place. The strike may end up costing more than the $429m per year that the guild is seeking under its latest proposals, especially if it goes on for weeks and months. The last strike in 2007-08 cost the California economy $2.1bn in lost economic output.
