Finnish Government and Top Ministers Triumph in Confidence Votes Amid Racism Scandals
The Finnish government, along with Finance Minister Riikka Purra and Economy Minister Wille Rydman, survived votes of confidence following racism scandals involving the far-right Finns Party. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's government received support from 106 MPs, while 65 voted against. Both far-right ministers, who have faced criticism for racist remarks, remain in office. The opposition called for the votes of confidence after disagreements over the government's plans to combat racism, which include banning Holocaust denial and the use of the swastika.
