Former Mississippi Officers Plead Guilty to Racist Assault on Black Men
Six white former law enforcement officers in Mississippi, known as the "Goon Squad," have pleaded guilty to a racist assault on two Black men during a home raid. The officers burst into the home without a warrant, handcuffed and used a stun gun on the victims, assaulted them with a sex object, and repeatedly used their stun guns over a 90-minute period. One officer shot a man in the mouth, causing severe injuries, while the officers used racist slurs. The charges come after an investigation linked the officers to other violent encounters with Black men. The victims have filed a civil rights lawsuit seeking $400 million in damages.
