Kidnapped Florida couple's family pleads for release and increase in ransom demand.
The family of a US couple kidnapped in Haiti is pleading for their release after they were snatched off a public bus amid a surge in gang-related kidnappings. The gang is demanding $200,000 each for their release. The couple were on their way to Jean-Dickens Toussaint’s hometown of Leogane to participate in the Rara festival when they were kidnapped. The ongoing violence in Port-au-Prince and beyond has displaced at least 160,000 people as warring gangs set fire to neighborhoods in their bid to control more territory.
