Firefighter Criticizes DeSantis Panel's Move to End Disney World Benefits
Reedy Creek firefighter Pete Simon criticizes the decision by the DeSantis-appointed board to end the "unethical benefits and perks" enjoyed by Reedy Creek Improvement District employees, including firefighters. Simon, who joined the job partly for the ability to visit Disney World with his family, expressed concern about the cuts to benefits and questioned what would come next. The current board accuses their predecessors of using taxpayer funds to provide $2.5 million in perks, mostly related to season passes and Disney purchases, which allegedly funneled money back to the resort. Simon believed that the new board would improve the district but has only seen cuts so far.
