"Backlash against Rep. Byron Donalds for opposing slavery curriculum"
Rep. Byron Donalds, the only Black member of Florida's GOP congressional delegation, criticized Governor Ron DeSantis' new educational standards that include teaching students that some Black "slaves developed skills" they could benefit from. In response, DeSantis' campaign staffers attacked Donalds, comparing him to Vice President Kamala Harris. Donalds stood by his criticism and reaffirmed his support for former President Donald Trump. He has expressed interest in running for governor when DeSantis' term ends in 2027.
