Navigating the GOP's Debt Limit Bill and Negotiations with Biden
House Republicans have proposed a bill that would cut federal spending and roll back some of President Biden's policy priorities in exchange for lifting the debt ceiling for one year. The bill includes rescinding unspent Covid-19 relief funds, capping spending to fiscal 2022 levels, rolling back some of the Biden administration's climate measures, clawing back funding from the Internal Revenue Service, imposing stricter work requirements for food stamp and Medicaid recipients, blocking student loan forgiveness, and raising the debt limit through March 2024. The proposal is seen as an opening offer to Democrats and negotiations are expected to begin soon.
