Jan. 6 rioter sentenced to 4 years for assaulting officers with fire extinguisher.
Robert Sanford, a retired firefighter, was sentenced to over four years in federal prison for throwing a fire extinguisher at police officers during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Sanford apologized for his behavior and claimed he had been caught up in "mob mentality." He had sought help from a "cult deprogramming" expert to understand how he came to believe in Donald Trump's lies about the 2020 election. Sanford's attorney said he was willing to examine the lies he believed and how he ended up "going down the proverbial rabbit hole."
