Police Abandonment Felt by Locals Before Texas Mass Shooting
Residents of the Trails End neighborhood in Texas, where a man killed five of his Honduran neighbors, say law enforcement was slow to respond to frequent gunfire long before the shooting. The rural sheriff’s department took 11 minutes to get to the scene of the April 28 shooting, and for the ensuing four-day manhunt. The largely Latino neighborhood about 60 miles north of Houston, where many immigrant residents feel disregarded and disrespected by officials from the local level up to the governor.
