
Police search for mother after infant found dead near trash can in South El Monte
An infant was found dead near a trash can at the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte. Investigators are trying to identify and find the mother for medical reasons. The infant had been abandoned for approximately 3 hours before he was discovered. There was no traumatic injury observed on the infant. Detectives say it's unclear whether the mother will face any criminal charges. California has a Safely Surrendered Baby Law, which allows parents to safely surrender their newborns at a hospital, fire station or other designated site within 72 hours of birth.
