Family sues Charlotte and security firm over fatal Lynx Blue Line stabbing
The Zarutska family filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the City of Charlotte and security contractor Professional Security Services, alleging systemic security failures on Charlotte’s Lynx Blue Line that left Iryna Zarutska without a security guard when she was fatally stabbed on Aug. 22, 2025; the suit cites under-staffing (183 guards hired out of a funded 219) and only 11 armed guards, absence of fare barriers, and seeks damages over $25,000 plus punitive damages against PSS (not against Charlotte).
