Man convicted of murdering London custody officer while handcuffed.
Louis De Zoysa shot and killed Sgt Matiu Ratana, a custody officer, at Croydon Custody Centre in London in September 2020. De Zoysa was carrying a loaded antique Colt revolver, which he had concealed under his arm, and had made his own ammunition. He was handcuffed and searched by two police officers, who missed the gun in the holster under his arm. De Zoysa moved the gun from the holster to his hands, still cuffed behind his back, and shot Sgt Ratana in the heart. De Zoysa was found guilty of murder and his motive for carrying the gun remains unknown.
