Irvine car-show founder killed in fiery McLaren crash
James Wehr, 27, founder of South OC Cars and Coffee, died when his 2019 McLaren crashed into a tree in Irvine, splitting the car in two and sparking flames; a second occupant also died and investigators are probing a high-speed, single-vehicle crash at Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue around 12:20 a.m. Wehr had attended a car show earlier that day and had posted a photo of a police cruiser pulling him over about an hour before the crash. Tributes poured in from family and the wider car community as the weekly Outlets at San Clemente gathering—one of the world’s largest weekly car meets—continues to be mourned and remembered.
