Top US Beaches of 2023: Florida and Hawaii Dominate Rankings.
St. George Island beach in Florida's Gulf of Mexico has been named the best beach in the US by Dr. Beach, a.k.a. Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, a professor at Florida International University. The beach, which covers about 2,000 acres on the east end of the island, is a favorite of Dr. Beach, who uses 50 criteria to evaluate beaches, including water and sand quality, safety and environmental management practices. Caladesi Island State Park, also in Florida, ranks fourth on the list this year.
