Congressman's Virginia office staff attacked by person with baseball bat
A person armed with a baseball bat attacked two members of Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly's staff at his district office in Virginia. The attacker is in police custody and the staff members were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Last year, the U.S. Capitol Police investigated about 7,500 cases of potential threats against members of Congress. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries emphasized the importance of protecting lawmakers and their staff, especially given the increased instances of political violence in the country.
