GOP rolls out plan for nationwide data privacy framework that preempts state rules
Republican lawmakers unveiled two bills, the SECURE Data Act and the GUARD Financial Data Act, to establish a national data privacy framework that would override more than 20 state laws, require limits on data collection, grant consumers access to their data, and set protections for sensitive information, while preserving state-enforcement roles and aiming to boost competition and consumer choice.
