Canada Wildfires: Air Quality Concerns and Safety Measures.
More than 400 wildfires in Canada have caused unhealthy smoke conditions in several parts of the eastern US, with New York City having the worst air quality on Earth. Exposure to particulate pollution can raise the risk of developing asthma, lung cancer, and other chronic lung diseases, especially for vulnerable populations. The best move is to stay indoors, but if you have to go outside, an N95 mask would offer the most protection. Certain groups, including those with heart and lung disease, asthma, pregnant people, young children, and older individuals, are more at risk. People are advised to avoid outdoor physical activity, use air filters or purifiers, and contact their doctor if feeling sick.
