Film Workers Struggle as Strike Takes Heavy Toll on Crews
Film workers affected by the ongoing strikes in the industry will receive assistance in maintaining their health insurance, as the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health Plans (MPIPHP) extends eligibility to those who wouldn't have enough hours to qualify for benefits. Additionally, members will be able to make a one-time "hardship withdrawal" from their retirement plans. The MPIPHP funds have been impacted by the strike, with a significant drop in contributions. The plans will credit additional hours to help workers reach the eligibility threshold, and eligible participants will be notified accordingly. The Writers Guild of America strike began in May, followed by the SAG-AFTRA strike in July, leading to the closure of TV and scripted production.
