Fort Lauderdale City Hall sustained extensive damage during a record-breaking rainstorm and will likely never reopen, according to city officials. The building is on life support and will cost taxpayers $50 million to keep operating over the next six months. The commission has suggested moving to temporary offices until a new City Hall can be built, and demolishing the current building. Some critics have suggested getting estimates on what it would cost to fix City Hall and what it would cost to build a new one, but the city no longer has the luxury of time.
