"Subject of Robert Doisneau's Famous Paris Kiss Photo Passes Away at 93"
Francoise Bornet, the woman famously depicted in Robert Doisneau's iconic photograph "The Kiss by the Hotel de Ville," has passed away at the age of 93. The photo, taken in 1950 and becoming a symbol of romance in Paris, was revealed to be staged after it gained commercial success in the 1980s. Bornet, along with her then-boyfriend Jacques Carteaud, were drama students who were paid to pose for the photo, which later sparked legal disputes when multiple couples claimed to be the subjects. Bornet confirmed her identity by producing a signed original copy of the photo. She sold this copy at auction in 2005 for €150,000.
