Alex Baudin won stage 1 from a breakaway at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, leaving a GC group including Matteo Jorgenson 44 seconds back and Onley/Vauquelin gaining time on the peloton. Jorgenson bitterly remarked, “You can’t follow everyone,” after Deceuninck? Decathlon’s decision to ease in the chase cost him and other favourites; Visma-Lease a Bike had riders in the late move but did not significantly assist their leader. The result puts Baudin in yellow with Jorgenson and the other main contenders well off the front as the race continues.
