BBC sting nets two-year sentence for online incitement by self-described ‘genocidal racist’
A 29-year-old former HMRC employee linked to the far-right Patriotic Alternative was jailed for two years for inciting racial, religious and sexual-orientation hatred online after BBC Wales Investigates secretly recorded him. Thomas Webster admitted 10 counts of stirring up hatred, including calls for the killing and extinction of Jews, Muslims, gay people and immigrants, and boasted about killing non-white individuals. The BBC programme triggered a police investigation; Webster was dismissed by HMRC in Feb 2025 and had previously been referred to the Prevent program multiple times. He was arrested over online posts on X and a Substack account, with a judge saying there was no realistic prospect of rehabilitation.
