The FTC is distributing over $126 million to nearly 1 million Fortnite players and parents who were charged for unwanted in-game purchases or unauthorized credit card charges, with a deadline of July 9 to file claims for those who haven't yet done so.
Epic Games has been ordered by the Federal Trade Commission to pay $245 million in refunds to Fortnite players who were tricked into making unwanted purchases due to the game's confusing button configuration. The company is also prohibited from charging consumers through the use of dark patterns or blocking them from accessing their accounts for disputing unauthorized charges. Affected customers can claim a refund through a government agency. The refunds will be available to parents whose children made unauthorized credit card purchases, Fortnite players charged for unwanted in-game items, and those whose accounts were locked after disputing unauthorized charges.
