"US Resurrects Cold War Submarine Spy Program to Combat China's Influence"

The US Navy is reviving its multibillion-dollar Integrated Undersea Surveillance System (IUSS), the largest reconstruction of America's anti-submarine spy program since the end of the Cold War, in response to China's increased military exercises around Taiwan. The IUSS revamp involves modernizing the existing network of underwater acoustic spy cables, retrofitting surveillance ships with cutting-edge sensors and subsea microphones, deploying unmanned sea drones, using satellites and artificial intelligence software for analysis. The US has also agreed to sell similar technology to Australia to bolster allied defenses in the Pacific region. China is working on its own maritime spy program, known as the Great Underwater Wall, consisting of sonar listening sensors and a fleet of underwater and surface sea drones.
