Women taking the weight-loss jabs Ozempic and Wegovy, which contain the drug semaglutide, have reported unexpected pregnancies, leading some physicians to prescribe the jabs off-label to treat infertility. While weight loss can improve fertility, experts warn that conceiving while using the drugs may be harmful for the developing baby. The drugs have been hailed for their weight-loss effects, but users can rapidly regain weight once they stop taking the drug and may experience side effects such as nausea and diarrhea. Pharmaceutical firm Novo Nordisk advises women to stop taking the weight loss drugs at least two months before a planned pregnancy, as studies have shown potential risks of miscarriage and birth defects if taken while pregnant.
