Record-breaking $45M spent on Wisconsin Supreme Court election funded by mega donors.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court election, which will determine control of the court and the legality of abortion in the state, has become the most expensive judicial contest in US history, with over $37m spent so far. Liberal candidate Janet Protasiewicz has raised $14.5m, while conservative Daniel Kelly has raised $2.7m but benefited from outside spending from third-party groups. The Republican State Leadership Committee has spent about $200,000 in support of Kelly, with some of its donors being companies that have pledged to support their employees' access to abortion. The election has national implications and could also play a key role in setting voting rules for the 2024 election in Wisconsin.
