Haitian Vigilantes Target Suspected Gangs, Resulting in Deadly Violence.
Vigilante killings are on the rise in Haiti, with at least 18 people killed by crowds in Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas since last week. The killings come as some Haitians say they are tired and angry over escalating gang violence, with the UN noting a 20% increase in killings from January to the end of March, compared with the last quarter of 2022. The UN has appealed for the immediate deployment of a foreign armed force, a plea that the UN's special envoy to Haiti echoed last week.
