Judge outlines funding fallout as Spurs arena vote looms
Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai outlined the impact and risks of San Antonio's proposed $1.3 billion Spurs arena, noting Spurs would pay at least $500 million, the city up to $489 million, and the county up to $311 million. With a City Council vote set for Aug. 17 on whether to place the city’s share on the November ballot, Sakai warned the deal hinges on the city fulfilling its $489 million obligation and warned of potential litigation or costs for reimbursement if it doesn’t. He also framed the project as a catalyst to revitalize downtown and the East Side and to remake county facilities in partnership with the San Antonio rodeo.
