RSV Shot Demand Surges, Straining National Supply and Raising Safety Concerns

The demand for the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) shot is so high that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending it only for the most vulnerable patients, including infants younger than six months and those with underlying conditions. The RSV shot, approved by the FDA in July, is intended to prevent RSV in infants and children up to 24 months old. The supply of the shot is struggling to meet the unprecedented demand, and pediatricians are hoping it will reduce hospitalizations and complications. RSV cases are still rising in Georgia, and some hospitals have reported a significant number of positive tests.
