California state Senator Aisha Wahab won the special election to fill the remainder of Eric Swalwell’s term in California’s 14th district, defeating Melissa Hernandez despite heavy spending by pro-Israel groups like the United Democracy Project and BOLD America. Wahab will represent the district for Swalwell’s term ending in January and will face Hernandez again in November for a full two-year term; she is set to become the first Afghan American member of Congress.
