"Tuesday marks implementation of new gift card scam protection law"
A new law in New York State requires businesses selling gift cards to display warning notices near where they are sold or displayed to protect customers from scams. The Federal Trade Commission reported that nearly 65,000 consumers filed complaints related to gift card scams in 2022, resulting in a loss of $228.3 million. Secretary of State Robert J. Rodriguez introduced the bill in May to increase public awareness of these scams and encourage businesses to comply with the law.
