"Maine Gunman's Brain Shows Traumatic Injury, Researchers Say"
A specialized laboratory examining the brain of the gunman responsible for Maine's deadliest mass shooting found profound brain damage similar to that seen in veterans exposed to repeated blasts from weapons use. The autopsy report revealed that the gunman, a former grenade instructor in the Army Reserve, had suffered from symptoms such as hearing voices and paranoid delusions after years of exposure to thousands of blasts. The lab's findings indicated "moderately severe" damage to the brain's white matter, as well as scarring and inflammation consistent with repeated trauma from weapons blasts, distinct from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (C.T.E.) found in athletes.
