Storm Causes Widespread Power Outages, Restoration Efforts Underway
Approximately 20,000 Memphis Light, Gas & Water (MLGW) customers in Tennessee remain without power four days after a major storm caused widespread outages affecting over 120,000 customers. The remaining outages are concentrated in small pockets of Millington, Bartlett, Raleigh, Shelby Forest, and Lakeland. MLGW President and CEO Doug McGowen apologized for the inconvenience and stated that some outages may take until the weekend to restore. The utility has secured additional repair crews and has restored power to over 100,000 customers so far. However, full restoration could still be days away as the region experiences a heatwave with temperatures above 100 degrees. MLGW urged customers to conserve electricity and announced that disconnections for non-payment would be suspended due to the excessive heat.
