One person was killed in a shooting near the Western Michigan University campus. The victim has not been identified yet and the investigation is ongoing.
Plans have been revealed to build a $300 million Kalamazoo Event Center in downtown Kalamazoo, which would include an arena, event hall, practice facilities, a parking deck, and more. The event center would be entirely privately funded and could potentially be the future home for WMU hockey, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball. The arena would hold up to 8,000 people for concerts and 6,500 people when configured for hockey and basketball. The plan includes a proposed $6 million to benefit the Northside via a “community benefits agreement.” A timeline for construction and opening has not been released.
