Mandarin-Origin Taiwan Travelogue Wins the International Booker Prize
Taiwan Travelogue, a Mandarin-original novel by Yang Shuang-zi and translated by Lin King, won the 2026 International Booker Prize, making it the first Mandarin-original work and the first Taiwanese author to claim the award. The 1930s-set romance, set during Japanese occupation, also serves as a post-colonial meditation and features footnotes and afterwords by translators; the £50,000 prize is split between the author and translator.
