Niu Lai defies mockery to become a box-office rival to The Odyssey in China

A low-budget Chinese animated film, Niu Lai, started with tiny box-office receipts (about 10,000 yuan in the first 10 days) but went viral as memes and word-of-mouth propelled demand, pushing total takings to about 17.1 million yuan and even drawing comparisons to The Odyssey as cinemas added screenings to meet demand.
