Kips Bay AMC to Close by Year’s End 2026

The beloved AMC Kips Bay 15 located at Second Avenue and East 31st Street in Manhattan will close by the end of 2026 after the property owner exercises its contractual right to terminate the theater’s lease; AMC has operated the venue since 2006 (open since 1999), and a formal closure date will be announced later. The land is owned by Kips Bay Development Limited Partnership (affiliates of JD Carlisle Development Corp.), and the owners have not commented on redevelopment plans. State Assemblymember Keith Powers says the closure would be a big loss and is exploring measures to prevent it.
