Evanston resident injured after mistaken ICE detention; police investigate

A U.S. citizen and Evanston resident was injured Sunday morning when ICE agents detained him by mistake in front of a Howard Street restaurant. Police say he suffered head, neck, and dental injuries, was treated at St. Francis Hospital, and was later released after authorities determined he was not the person sought. The Evanston Police Department is investigating, reviewing video and body-worn/in-car footage, as ICE activity in the area is examined; ICIRR noted related regional enforcement activity, with Evanston’s case marking a notable incident after months without an ICE detainer in the city.

Wildfire-Driven Bears Move Into Sedona Neighborhoods

Fueled by the Pocket Fire, black bears have wandered into Sedona’s neighborhoods, with multiple sightings in Uptown and the Village of Oak Creek reported over the past two weeks; officials say bears are attracted to food odors from bird feeders and trash, advise securing attractants and keeping pets indoors, and warn against feeding wildlife. If you see a bear, make yourself look big, back away slowly, and call the Arizona Game and Fish 24/7 line at 623-236-7201 if the bear poses a safety risk; lethal removal is rare.
